Veldes - 'Skyward' EP (2014)

Veldes

'Skyward' (EP)

Razed Soul Productions

2014

Veldes is a slovenian atmospheric black metal band, founded in 2012 by Tilen Simon (Nephrolith). This project has released only one album so far. It's succesor is called 'Skyward', and it contains four new tracks.
To be honest I hadn't opportunity to listen to band's music. But the first contact with this EP was rather positive - the cover art reminded me Beksinski's works (or maybe it really is his picture?). I simply like such kind of graphics. I like also Drudkh and Wolves In The Throne Room, which defenitely inspired Veldes to compose and record. Unfortunately the music of this slovenian project is not very original. I failed to find here any element that would be surprising. The music is not bad though, especially in the slower parts - even if for most of the time it is a well-known combination: 'hypnotic, black metal riffs + some keyboard samples + typical black metal screaming manner'. Interesting though are moments in the second song 'Woe Eater', when a sound of Veldes turns more into music inspired by Solstafir from 'Svartir Sandar' album. Also ambient intro and outro is quite good - it might be great to hear more of such mixture of psychodelia and electronic stuff in the future. Those are defenitely the best fragments of this release.
From the other hand, the music has also a big flaw - I don't know how other reviewers see this, but in my opinion fast parts are annoying. I mean here especially cymbals and double foot percusion. Maybe it's a fault of bad production, but it seems to me that a drum machine replaces here a 'live' musician. And everyone knows how sound blast-beats made in computer programs - terrible!
The material is short, so I am also writing short review. Generally speaking, the content of this EP is not bad. Fans of aforementioned bands, as well as of atmospheric music in general should like 'Skyward'. I am affraid though that Veldes won't find many supporters outside those narrow circles. My advice for a future is as follows - try to more experiment in slower areas, especially with those psychedelic and ambient things. And defenitely change a sound of drums if you want to continue doing more extreme parts in the future. Now everything sounds OK, but as far as I hear it Tilen is capable to record something much better.

News from this week

From russian ARKONA:

We can proudly announce, that the work on our new album "Yav" is finished and master CD was sent to Napalm rec. few minutes ago! Those 70 minutes of music took a lot of nerves, time and power, and now we finally can say: "Yes, we made it!". All musicians, who took part in album recording, showed the highest level of their musical skills. Sometimes we had to go back and learn how to play an instrument again, but now, when the whole work is behind, we can tell, that it is new step in our art and this 3-years long path is finished!

Listen to a teaser of 'Yav' here.

From the true MAYHEM (taken from Metal Hammer website):

Seven long years after they dropped their malevolent and murky masterpiece, Ordo Ad Chao, black metal’s most notorious band and the true originals of Norwegian desecration, Mayhem, are back with a new, as-yet-untitled album due out at the end of May.

Thanks to the hardy folk at Season Of Mist Records, we can exclusively reveal the warning shot that is the band’s new single, Psywar, taken from the forthcoming missive, and comes complete with a bleak but visionary new lyric video courtesy of revered artist Costin Chioreanu (Spiritual Beggars, Oranssi Pazuzu, Vulture Industries and a host of Roadburn posters all showcasing his unique woodcut-on-LSD style) that recasts the notion of ‘industrial wasteland’ in brain-warping new forms.

Less overtly avant garde than Ordo Ad Chao, Psywar is still saturated with the kind of Stygian atmosphere and radioactive filth that Mayhem have made their own. Epic, defiling and utterly affecting it finds Attila Csihar, Necrobutcher, Hellhammer and new member Teloch primed to reopen black metal’s oldest and most putrid wounds and still drag the genre into its unruly slipstream. All hail, and unveil!

The long-awaited debut album by uprising Dutch folk metal band Alvenrad will be released via the German label Trollmusic on April 4th in Europe and April 15th in the US. It is entitled “Habitat” and it contains nine powerful tunes, which combine the archaic charm of wooden folk & black metal with the enthusiasm of classic bands like Uriah Heep, Iron Maiden or Judas Priest. The album has been mastered by Markus Stock (Empyrium / Studio E) and will be published as noble digipak including a booklet with all lyrics, translations & liner notes by the musicians. Alvenrad have unveiled the cover artwork, the album tracklist, as well as their first official video for the song “Woudakoestiek” that you can watch below and get a first taste of their music.

Hailing from the mythic heart of the Veluwe, the Dutch duo Alvenrad offers a fresh blend of folk-influenced heavy metal. The nine lively tunes on its debut album “Habitat” root deeply in various traditions and like branches of a mighty tree they spread towards the sun, encouraging the listeners to follow them on an adventurous voyage on pathways untrodden by most contemporary bands. Alvenrad is a free Dutch translation of a kenning for the sun used in the Edda, approximately wheel of the elves. With the passionate help of brilliant guest musicians, Jasper Strik and Mark Kwint created a debut album reflecting the strong burning love for their “Habitat” – a home which is described through landscapes, literature, paintings, classical music and the wild mixture of them all. “Habitat” is for all music lovers who enjoy enthusiastic & powerful folk metal, especially fans of Vintersorg, Myrkgrav, Skyclad, Jethro Tull, Empyrium, Windir, Forefather and Borknagar should give this band a listen!

Demonic Slaughter - 'Downfall' (2013)

Demonic Slaughter

'Downfall'

Pagan Recs.

2013

Demonic Slaughter is a polish black metal horde from Lublin, Poland. The band was founded in 2006, it has 4 full-lenghs albums on account together with few shorter materials. 'Downfall' is their last release.
The last LP 'Revelations of Death' had some death metal relish (swedish, to be more precise), this time the guys decided to create pure black metal hell. Well, I must say that even it's not very revealing, the music it's very nice (let say, haha). Harsh vocals, fast, depressive yet often catchy riffs (especially great 'Cold and Haunted') and a drummer devastating his implement creates kinda dark atmosphere. Black metal maniacs should feel good with this kind of tunes. The production is very stifling, so that you have to focus on what's you're currently listenning to. For some folks it might be a flaw, but I think that in this case it's a big advantage - forget about listenning to this stuff in a bus or during washing the dishes and absorb the cult (haha)! Too feel the real obscurity of 'Downfall' you have to spare some time to this music.
There are not many slow parts this time. I noticed though that in some moments ('Dark Matter Constelation', or especially 'Martwa Cisza') the music is more similar to the kindred band of one of musicians - Xaosis. So the music slows down a bit, and goes into more rock/melanacholic areas. It is a nice sign of variety, and more of such elements on the future releases will be welcome by me with open arms. Also this release is full of some background noises and wild screams. Nothing new indeed, but defenitely adds some more evil element to this grim atmosphere.
The material at first seems to be very monotonous and boring, but after some replays it defenitely shows a listenner it's 'better' side. This seeming monotony together with stifling production creates very nasty climate and indeed good music. Everyone who loves cold and haunted (hehe) sound should defenitely give a try to 'Downfall'.

From polish folk rockers - ALNE:
'We are working on our new album! The drums have already been recorded and this month we are recording the guitars. The new line-up is:

Kasia – vocals
Klimorh – guitar
Horizon – guitar

Agnieszka – cello

Well, the line-up is not the only new thing, our songs are totally different. Just listen to the drums from one of the new songs…(here - Vlad.)
As with our debut album, this time the themes of the lyrics are inspired by the native faith, the spirituality of the land ALNE comes from, the spiritual traditions of Slavonic and old Prussian people. Three texts were prepared by Alne, but the rest of the lyrics were written by contemporary “pagan” poets – Wojciech Mytnik and Piołun… More details about the lyrics available soon.

We have prepared 9 songs, including the cover version of ,,A Mask in the Mirror” by Ved Buens Ende.

Emyn Muil - 'Turin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga' (2013)

Emyn Muil

'Turin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga'

Nartum Music Projects

2013

Epicness, atmosphere, black metal and Tolkien - what band comes to your head? Of course Summoning. There are/were quite many bands influenced by this legendary duo - one were better, other were worse. Emyn Muil, a debutant one-men solo project from the sunny Italia is one of another austrians disciples.
Other band that comes to my head is of course Elffor. The label/band put to this list also Windir and Arathorn. Well, the elements of the first one can be barely heard here, the second one is unknown to me. Yet I hope that you got the general idea? The music is epic, yet also very raw and dark. The closest clue are here three first albums of Summoning - they have more or less similar atmosphere. The production is not very well, vocals are screaming in an unintelligible way and keyboard-based ambient creates 'epicness'. I have nothing against 'bad' production, but here sometimes everything is merge into one thing. Another fail are in my opinion keyboards - in many places they sound very synthetic. I mean especially purely ambient tracks, 'cause the metal ones sounds much better. Today it's way easier to create more natural sound, so being blindly gazed in Summoning is not the best idea in this case.
Most of the tracks are not very original. It is clearly heard that Saverio, the guy responsible for this project, is still under a big influence of mentioned hordes. Well, not everyone is a genius able to create something completely fresh at the first time. I'm affraid that due to this fact Emyn Muil will land in 'for Summoning maniacs' label, and this is not completely fair. There are tracks that are really good, with no doubt (opening one, 'Path of the Doomed',  or defenitely the best song  'Death of Glaurung'). Especially great is the using of 'choirs', or battle cries (you name it) and war horns. Some of the riffs are also really fine, very heavy and catchy - a motif from 'Turin Son of Hurin' is a good example. Too bad that many times soughing production makes it impossible to hear it well. Ambient tracks can be also a great interludes - 'The Sack of Nargothrond' is a shining point of this release, made in an excellent way. On the other hand, I think that  sometimes there is too much of it. Putting three ambient composition one after another in the middle of the album wasn't really the best idea.
So in conclusion - the album is not bad, but it can be done better. I was complaining a lot, but the music really makes a very positive impression in many parts. People who love raw, epic stuff will be of course vitally interested in this material. In case of the other ones - that depends, but they can give this band a chance. Personally I have one advice for Emyn Muil: less ambient, more originality for the future. Try to make something more for your own, and maybe it will profit on the next release.

Interview - Jarun - Zstępując w głąb ziemi...

This is the polish version of the interview. The english one will be published soon.

5. OK, przejdźmy do pytań stricte muzycznych.

Choćby poszczególne kawałki były znakomite, to całość musi w końcu zanudzić. My do każdego numeru staramy się podchodzić indywidualnie.

Mówiąc szczerze nieco mnie to przeraża. To prosta droga do wszelkich skrajności, ekstremizmów i fanatyzmu.

W młodości nasiąkałem ludowymi, tradycyjnymi dźwiękami i później znalazło to ujścia w tworzonych przeze mnie melodiach. Gdy powstały zarysy pierwszych utworów i gdy postanowiłem zamiast chować to do szuflady, stworzyć osobny projekt, a w dalszej perspektywie zespół, wtedy dopiero zacząłem zastanawiać się nad nazwą, otoczką itd.

W dużej mierze, to właśnie w opozycji do nich ruchy neopogańskie budują swoją tożsamość, to w walce z nimi hartują się i wzmacniają. Może jednak faktycznie nieco go osłabić.

12. Dobra, to pomówiliśmy o waszym debiucie, o pogaństwie i o kulturze ludowej, czas pomówić o nadchodzącej płycie.

Cenimy sobie swobodę i niezależność związaną z samodzielnym wydawaniem naszych materiałów.

Pytanie numer dwa: kiedy i gdzie fani będą mogli znów oglądać was na scenie?

Naprawdę fantastyczna, interesująca i niebanalna rzecz. Niedawno ukazał się też debiutancki materiał naszych przyjaciół z nowotarskiego Aries Vehemens. Solidna dawka bardzo energetycznego, mocnego i konkretnego grania. Stanowczo polecam.
I to właściwie tyle. Reszta nowych wydawnictw raczej mnie ostatnio rozczarowuje niż porusza.

Ostatnie słowo należy tradycyjnie do Ciebie.

News from METSATOLL:

'On March 7 Metsatöll will release its sixth studio album “Karjajuht” (“Pack Leader”). The record includes 12 tracks, of which “Lööme mesti” has already  been playing in radios.
On its new album Metsatöll has employed a new approach towards its traditional ideas and notions of folk metal. The average pace and tardy epics  of its latest studio albums are now things of the past, while new tracks are energetic, melodic and seductive. Naturally, Metsatöll’s entire park of folk instruments from zithers to bagpipes is engaged as well.
Today a second single reached the radio stations. A track called “Tõrrede kõhtudes” is dedicated to the making of a very important Estonian beverage. Metsatöll leaves it for the listeners to decide which beverage it is, although the mentioned ingredients do not leave much room for guessing.
The album will be released in the form of a CD, limited moving digipak CD and vinyl.
The album was produced by Metsatöll and Samuel Ruotsalainen. The tracks were recorded and mixed by Keijo Koppel and Marko Atso at the RoundSound Studios in Tallinn in September and October 2013. The album was released in cooperation with Spinefarm Records, an affiliate of Universal Music.
The author of the album’s front cover is traditionally a recognized Estonian artist Jüri Arrak. While the previous two albums of Metsatöll included the  artist’s earlier creations, then this time the painting was created especially for the album “Pack Leader”.
The album will be available in Europe as of March 7, in UK as of March 9. The exact release date in USA will be published as soon as possible.
The album “Pack Leader” can be pre-ordered as of today from the band’s e-shop at http://pood.metsatoll.ee/'

Kvelertak - 'Meir' (2013)

Kvelertak

'Meir'

Indie Recs.

2013

What is Kvelertak, I propable don't have to explain. There is enough fuzz about Norwegians in the mainstream metal press, so that everybody should know something about them and their music. So without more empty words - let's skip this intro and focus on the music.
OK, first of all - Kvelertak still have their original style that I liked very much. Still very rock'n'roll - in my opinion even more than on the previous album. The music is also more melodic, and generally speaking 'Meir' has defenitely more in common with classic hard rock, punk than with extreme genres (although there are exceptions - vocals, and the track 'Nekrokosmos' which is kinda heavy). At the first look, everything is fine - the music is even more pugnacious, and tracks such as 'Braune Bren' or 'Snilepisk' sounds really great. I remember how excited I was about them when the album was released. Even the clean vocals, which irritated me on the debut, here are done in an awesome way. It seems that I should kneel on my knees and prostrate...
Maybe I should, but it won't happen. Unfortunetely - after a longer time the music looses much of it's magic. I was wondering why, and I think that now I know the answer. Most of the tracks are simply TOO melodic - comparing too the first album, which was much more rawer. OK, there were melodies too, but here we got too much of those melodic solos, choirs and stuff like that. Want a proof? Just try to listen to such 'Evig Vandrar' or 'Undertro' a few times in a row - you will quickly get what I am talking about. Of course, if somebody is permeated by the hard rock, or melodic genres - he/she can welcome such riffing with open arms. Yet I am a bit dissapointed.
But hey - don't get me wrong! The music is still very listenable (except too long 'Tordenbrak'...), but unfortunetely it doesn't has the syndrom of 'I need too push the replay button once again!'. The debut album was fantastic, the second one is just good. I've spoken.

Koldbrann - 'Vertigo' (2013)

Koldbrann

Vertigo

Season of Mist

2013

Koldbrann, Koldbrann... I can recall the name, but to be honest for some reasons I've never wanted to check out their music. But now the time has come, I am just listenning once again to their third album 'Vertigo' and thinking what I should write about it.
And what plays Koldbrann? Well, black metal. Kinda raw black metal, although that with not-necro sound. Their music can be compared to Darkthrone (from their 'middle' period'), or more loosely to Carpathian Forest (I mean hear a certain attitude, not necessarily rock'n'roll elements). The material for sure have also a certain pugnacity, and many riffs are defenitely very (well...) cool - but at the same time they don't loose this dark atmosphere, typical in this genre. Honestly? It doesn't make very big impression. It's very hard to write something creative about the album, when every single track is played in more or less the same vain. Most of the songs have supposedly balls, the riffs are played in very norwegian style etc. so that listener who likes such music should be pleased. But I am not - for some reason the music can't stick into my head, and after the listenning mostly I don't remember it. Even the guests (inter alia Erlend Hjelvik from Kvelertak) don't bring to this music much - I don't feel that they diversify the music.
There are though some moments that are quite good, forcing you to headbanging - and amongst them there is the track 'Stolichnaya Smert'. I know that it is a kind of joke, but this black/punk melodies are really good! There are also other nice shots, like the first 'IntroVertigo' or 'Hjertets Holodomor' - but they are not as good as the the song about russian vodka hehe.
Fuck, I really don't know how I should rate 'Vertigo'. There are here some good moments (and one great), but the rest is really bleak. So I will write what's following: if you're a maniac of norwegian BM scene, you can check this music at your own risk. The rest can simply look for something different.

Arsaidh (Saor) - 'Roots' (2013)

Arsaidh

'Roots'

Darker Than Black Recs.

2013

Arsaidh is a Scottish atmospheric black metal band, founded in 2012 by Andy Marschall (ex-Falloch, ex-Askival). In 2013 the band (or better project) changed it name to Saor - so you can find this release also under this moniker.
When I am listenning to this material I always think about other band, also from British Islands - Nhor. The music of both of these bands - Arsaidh and Nhor - has many in common. They play atmospheric black metal, but in defenitely raw version, with harsh production. Also the melancholic atmosphere of those projects makes them a bit similar. But Nhor's concept bases on nature, while Arsaidh/Saor seems to goes more into themes like proud of the scottish heritage. Not in any nationalistic way, more melancholic (or even romantic).
To be honest it's very hard to describe Arsaidh's music So let me do this in a bit different way and test your imagination. First of all - read these stanzas:

We are sorrow's children
Torn from Alba's womb
A reflection of fallen martyrs
The lifeblood of this land

'A Highland Lament' / Arsaidh

Now imagine an epic, black metal tremolo-picked riffs and middle fast drum beats. Add the vocals - extremely barbarian, which sounds like the last cry of Mel Gib... I mean, William Walace. Now, add soft, pulsatory bass, heavily exposed. And when the vocalist ends screaming those verses, imagine that the action calm a bit. The metal section is supported by many various instruments - sometimes it can be a fluet, sometimes a piano, and sometimes - remember, we're in Scotland - a bagpipes.
Got the atmosphere? Now the question is - do you like such kind of playing. If no, don't bother yourself anymore. But if you like the idea of (a bit raw) black metal, little soften by traditional celtic sounds, you should have a vital interest in buying this album. I must say that at first I was a bit sceptical, but it was more bounded with the production - a bit stifling, and very underground. I was immediately thinking 'that's not good in this genre'. But I was wrong - in my opinion this is a big advantage, because it helps you to focus on the music. Paradoxically raw (somebody would say - bad) sound makes music much better.
Of course music on 'Roots' is not as simple as I described it - it has many relishes here and there, which is a mark of every good band in this genre. Yet I believe that at least some people who should like 'Roots' will be looking for this release after reading of my review. And I think that they won't be disappointed.

Eternal Helcaraxe - 'Against All Odds' (2012)

Eternal Helcaraxe

'Against All Odds'

Abyss Recs.

2012

Eternal Helcaraxe is an irish black metal horde with some pagan metal attitude. 'Against All Odds' is their debut full-lenght album (even if the guys are playing since 2003).
This introduction is not very original, but from the other side - the music that I have to describe is not very original too. But I appreciate bands like this much - if they know what they want to achieve. Eternal Helcaraxe uses old, tested patents. So we have here fast black metal riffs with some epic attitude, ultra-fast drum beats and furious, harsh vocals. Very often the music is also assisted by keyboard in the background, which creates more epic sound. But don't worry, this is not a poor version of Dimmu Borgir but a juicy metal sound in 100%.
So as you can see - we have here all of the good stuff from the 90's. And what can I say? At the beginning the album makes quite a good impression, and I was pleased with what I was listenning to. Epic music, glorious texts about proud of irish heritage and such things - it all makes a good impression. I've heard similar things quite many times, yet I still enjoy it.
From time to time the band slows down, and rarely it is weaving some non metal tunes into it's music (like acoustics). Unfortunetely regardless of that each track sounds very similar to the other ones, so at some point a listener is starting to loose contact with the music. For me it would be OK, but such kind of playing should be taken in smaller doses - half of hour is a perfect time for this. After that everything starts to sound the same. At the beginning of this review I had stated that I apreciate not very original bands if they know what they want. Eternal Helcaraxe is one of them - they understand how to create a hellish, yet a bit epic sound BUT my rating would be one point higher if their opus was a bit shorter.
I advice the band one of two ways - to complicate your music a little bit more, or simply record shorter material. Yet still the content of 'Against All Odds' is really not bad - fans of myths, metal and paganism can give it a try.

Interview - Ereb Altor - Forging a sound with elements of both black and epic metal

Read a review of "Fire Meets Ice" here.
Ereb Altor is hailing from Gavle, Sweden. It was founded in 2003 and plays Viking metal highly influenced by a legendary Bathory. Yet this is not their only inspiration, and Ereb Altor's music clearly shows that the band has their own identity. Interested? If yes, read what Mats (Vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards) have to say about his fascinations (both musical and other ones), music and some cultural issues. Fans of epicness in music - this can be something for you!

1.Hailsa! First of all I would like to know how people in the undeground reacted on your last opus "Fire Meets Ice"? Did you receive some negative opinions?
The reactions have been great, better than after our previous albums. Great reactions when it comes to mails from fans and also great reactions from the media, both underground and bigger magazines.

2.We can listen to "Fire Meets Ice" a year after releasing of your previous album, that's kinda fast! Moreover, the material seems to be different than "Gastrike" - it's less black metal, even if there are some black metal influences in your music. Why did you decide to return to this more viking metal style?
Both "Gastrike" and Fire Meets Ice was written at the same time musically. I chose the more harsh songs for "Gastrike" because of the lyrical approach on that album.
I think "Fire Meets Ice" unites the history of Ereb Altor, forging a sound with elements of both black and the epic. It was a challenge to make an album with all these elements but I believe we succeeded.

3. The material is also highly touched by an almighty spirit of Bathory. I know that questions like this one are present in every interview with you, but do you imagine the world without Quorthon'smusic? And how do you think he would comment "Fire Meets Ice" if he was still alive?
Yes, it’s true that he had a great impact on my world of music. It’s impossible for me to imagine how it would be without it.
Quorthon would probably not comment the album at all, or say something weird as he did in most of the interviews.

4. Do you think that this is important to keep the spirit of oldschool viking metal alive, if we are around this subject? How do you personally rate the present scene - it's strong, weak or simply mediocre?
To be honest I don’t listen that much to the viking metalscene, mostly because I can’t recognize it. It doesn’t sound the way at all as it did when I grew up with "Hammerheart" and "Twilight of the Gods".
To me the old school Viking metal is glourious and let’s stick with that.

5. I suppose that Bathory had also started your fascination with norse mythology and history in general. How important are those topics for you? And here's my favourite question to scandinavian bands, hehe: what do you think about those who are worshipping norse gods nowadays? This makes sense in our high-tech societies or not in your opinion?
I am interested in mythology and supernatural things in general. Not only Norse mythology and legends from Scandinavia. But since we have a nordic touch in the music and we are from Sweden I think it suits us very well to deal with such topics.
I think everyone is entitled to worship any religion as long as no one is forcing others to follow their belief. But to me it’s more about inheritance and history, to understand how things were from where we come from.

6. Your lyrics are also inspired by a fantasy literature. You even named your band after a fantasy roleplaying game. It was in your youth, but do you still have an interest in such kind of stuff? Can you name some of your favourite authors?
I grew up playing fantasy games and I grew up with reading Lord of the Rings but I wouldn’t say I am a big consumer of fantasy litterature nowadays. I mostly read historic litterature and books about folklore. I also read regular books about murders and so on but no fantasy. And there isn’tmuch inspiration from fantasy in my lyrics either though it was supposed to be from the beginning but I changed the direction and focused on our inheritance and dark stories from the north instead.

7. In some moments, and especially in "The deceiver shall repent" I hear an echeos of some more traditional music, even if I wouldn't describe it as folk. Some more epic moments remind me a heavier soundtrack to some movie. So what would you say if some director had called to you and proposed to compose music to his new, upcoming epic movie about vikings? Agree or not and why?
Perhaps you are right… I thought the album needed some traditional elements to fulfill the dynamics.
Of course I would say yes, it would be a challenge! I’ve never done such a thing and I belive it would be a good experience.

8. Ha, speaking of movies, I like your lyric-video to "Nifelheim". Can you tell me who's the creator of it? And do you have any plans to record a real videoclip in the future?

It’s done by Luigith Web design (www.luigiht.com).
We have discussed to record a real video many times and I hope we will soon!

9. Modern pop-culture seems to be full of vikings, norse mythology and cliches bounded with them. Why in your opinion we can observe such an excitement about your ancestors' culture? Sadly, too many times a topic is treated very superficially...

The pop-culture touches everything sooner or later but only for a short period of time so it was inevitable that it would come across Norse mythology at some point. Trends come and go and most of the time the research is not the best.

10. OK, back to your music. "Fire Meets Ice" has a strong relish of doom metal, and I know that in the past it was even stronger. Because of that diversity of your musical fascinations, your own music is more diverse itself, and thanks to that more interesting. Am I right, haha? But while listenning to your albums, do you have sometimes thoughts like "Damn, that riff sounds too much like Bathory"? Or the opposite - "Shit, Candlemasshad stolen our riff!".
I’m actually not focusing that much on riffs, I focus on a song entirety. Working with atmospheres.
Even if you still look at one single riff and it might be sounding a lot like for instance Candlemass you can make the music sound different still, working with song harmonies, keyboards, basslines etcetera.

11. By the way, don't you think that closed-minded musicians are a problem for many genres in a modern metal music? I am not saying of course about being desperetaly original at all costs, but about an own identy.
It’s important to have an own identity and I think we have. But trying to be too original often complicate things too much and the most important thing, making good music, can be lost.

12.  You released your new album via Cyclone Empire. Are you happy with it? And why did you left Napalm Records - you weren't pleased with them? As far as I know, your second band Isole is still in Napalm, can you explain it?
Yes, we are very happy co-operating with Cyclone Empire, it was a good and natural step for us. We wanted a label that believe in our music and a label that are dedicated to us. Napalm Records have a lot of bands and a lot of them are much more famous than Ereb Altor so I think we will benefit with a smaller label that put more effort in the band.
Yes, Isole is still in Napalm Records.

13. Speaking of Isole - what's going on in this camp? Do you have any plans of releasing some new material?
We are recording a new album right now. But I want [propably Mats wanted to write "won't" - Vlad.] be giving you any details.

14. OK, now's time for a few short questions not bounded with your band. What is your favourite:
- beer

I don’t like regular lagers that much… I’m more of a Guinness guy.

- band (besideBathory ;])
Opeth

-hockey team?
Don’t like any hockey teams at all… I like soccer… Liverpool!

15. And at the end, please tell us about Ereb Altor's future plans.

In March next year we will go on a European tour with Borknagar, Månegarm and Shade Empire. We will do a release of some new material in one way or another, perhaps a 7” vinyl.
We also have some festivals booked and we are focusing on getting more festivals with ourbooking agency ”Doomed Events”

16. All right, that's everything I wanted to ask. Thank you very much for your time! The last word is traditionally yours.
All Hails to Quorthon !
See you in Valhalla !
